I grew up in a musical house in a musical neighborhood. The sound of a violin tuning, was a sound of home. I lived in the classical music world for many years and then as a young adult my interests took me traveling around the world. Along the way, I was influenced by different cultures and approaches to music. I began to weave these influences into my playing.
I have toured internationally with bands as a violinist and seen much of the world through the perspective of the stage. Perhaps, what I am most known for is my long time accompaniment of Krishna Das. In Krishna Das’s music I found a merging of music and spirituality that resonated. Through my work with Krishna Das I have toured extensively throughout North America, South America and Europe.
I composed my first solo album, Walking Home, when I was pregnant with my first son. It told the tale of a traveler Walking Home. Two kids and some life later, I have completed my second solo album, Home Songs. This album is a shift in my orientation, drawing upon the sounds and melodies of everyday life to express a collective ode to both the longing and cultivation of home. It is a celebration of the numinous in the ordinary and a musical exploration of finding home in the people that we love. Thank you for listening x Genevieve
